Gubernatorial candidate campaigns in U.P.
Tom George talked with medical professionals at the Peninsula Medical Center.
MARQUETTE -- He says Michigan's economy is broken, and Tom George is now asking for ideas on how to fix it as he campaigns for governor in a quest to "fix Michigan."
George met medical professionals Tuesday morning as they headed into work at the Peninsula Medical Center.
He says one of the ways to fix Michigan is to control the state's health care cost which he says can be done by reducing the number of smokers and getting Michigan residents exercising.
"We don't have a physical education requirement, a health requirement in grades K-8 in Michigan," says George. "We need that; this is where we learn lifelong patterns. So, it's education, but it's also incentives--people that are taking care of themselves should get a better deal on their insurance."
George also stresses the state needs a better energy policy, one that includes solar power and new coal plants.
