Candidate for Governor Tom George, M.D. (State Senate-20th District, R-Kalamazoo) filed paperwork today to place his name on the ballot for the republican nomination for governor
Candidate for Governor Tom George, M.D. (State Senate-20th District, R-Kalamazoo) filed paperwork today to place his name on the ballot for the republican nomination for governor. George spoke with members of the press prior to entering the Bureau of Elections office where he submitted 26,995 signatures to secure a spot in the August 3rd primary election.
Pledging to continue his work as a citizen legislator, George drew distinctions between his campaign and others, "I don't have millions of dollars to spend on Super Bowl ads and I don't drive around in a fancy bus, but I have a message for Michigan. Unless we reign in health care spending, we will continue to cut every other priority until there is nothing left."
The campaign expects to file additional signatures prior to the Tuesday afternoon deadline.
State Senator TOM GEORGE is a Republican candidate for Governor of Michigan. He currently represents District 20 in the Michigan Senate, comprised of Kalamazoo County and part of Van Buren County (Paw Paw and Antwerp Townships). He chairs the Senate Health Policy Committee and serves on the Appropriations Committee. Tom served one term in the State House (District 61) from 2001-2002 prior to election to the Senate. He is an M.D. and continues to practice medicine part-time. Tom also served as medical director of Hospice of Greater Kalamazoo from 1996 to 2001.
