TOM GEORGE FILES FOR GUBERNATORIAL MATCHING FUNDS

July 20, 2010— Candidate for Governor Tom George, M.D. (State Senate-20th District, R-Kalamazoo) filed paperwork today with the Michigan Bureau of Elections applying for gubernatorial matching funds. The campaign reported $81,201 of eligible contributions and expects to receive around $34,000 from the fund.

Campaign fundraising has improved in the past few weeks in part due to the lack of a clear frontrunner in the republican primary election. Said George, “Voters are still looking for a candidate. My plan to cut spending rather than promising additional programs and billion dollar tax cuts is resonating with voters who are tired of that faulty, dishonest math.”

Gubernatorial matching funds we slashed by the legislature, with the help of a vote from Senator George, balance Michigan’s budget. Continued George, “Leadership requires we face the facts. I am the only candidate in this race with a record of making tough decisions in Michigan over the past decade and the reality is my opponents cannot balance a budget and keep their promises. The hard working people of Michigan understand that and for the next two weeks, I will continue to share my message on the airways and on the streets that Michigan must reform social programs before we can afford to spend.”
