TOM GEORGE AIRS NEW AD, DON GILMER AGREES: REDUCE SPENDING FIRST
Candidate for Governor Tom George, M.D. (State Senate-20th District, R-Kalamazoo) earned praise from Don Gilmer for his message of fiscal restraint while campaigning for the Republican nomination for governor. Don Gilmer is a former State Representative and State Budget Director and a current member of the Michigan Finance Authority. Gilmer also served as a County Administrator for Kalamazoo and Calhoun (interim) counties.
George is the only candidate who refuses to promise spending increases and tax cuts in the face of continuing budget deficits, instead promising to first reform state health care spending. Following is Gilmer’s statement:
Michigan needs a leader with a clear, realistic vision for our future. Tom George is the conscience of this crowded Republican primary and he is the only candidate for governor willing to honestly address the fiscal crisis that plagues Michigan. Tom’s platform of fiscal responsibility is something his opponents want to run from while they promise tax cuts that they know will further weaken critical infrastructure Michigan desperately needs and citizens have a right to expect.
Tom George’s newest radio advertisement began airing Wednesday:
I’m Doctor Tom George and I’m running for governor.
Michigan is in a fiscal crisis. It makes no sense to increase spending and cut taxes as all my opponents propose. This has given us thirteen trillion dollars of federal debt. As a physician governor, I will add personal responsibility to failed state health programs to control spending.
