SENATOR TOM GEORGE PROMOTES HEALTHY BEHAVIOR
Bicycle tour to Lansing was a success as Sen. George kicks off first stage in statewide bike tour
Today, Senator Tom George, MD (20th District, R-Kalamazoo), began his statewide bike tour by cycling from his district to Lansing as a way to promote healthy behavior. This was the third annual bike tour to Lansing. Joining Sen. George to promote healthy behavior were other avid cyclists from the greater Kalamazoo and Lansing communities.
"Fixing Michigan's economy will require us to look at a number of policy solutions that help to diversify our economy, create and retain jobs, retrain displaced workers, support education, and encourage people to make healthy behavior choices," said Sen. George. "It is important to understand that health care is the biggest expense in our state's budget and the key to turning our state around is addressing our unhealthy population."
As Sen. George continues to promote healthy behavior by cycling around the state, he will also meet with groups and individuals to talk about ideas to fix Michigan. George, a practicing physician and avid cyclist, has sponsored legislation to allow insurance companies to give discounts for healthy behavior, and to expand insurance coverage to the uninsured.
